A while back, I wrote a series of tweets about my Amazon UAE shopping experience.
amazon.ae, and I liked publishing the experience in a blog to document it, and because I know that social networks are not suitable for publishing permanent content.
At first, we will notice that the shopping experience is similar to other Amazon sites.
In terms of display, the accuracy of the search. Clear prices include costs, international shipping, and clearance, if any. Pricing here will be in AED.
Also, you can use your Amazon Unified account, your addresses/payment methods will appear.
The site supports the Arabic language almost completely, the descriptions of many products, or their basic information, have been localized.
Customer service is in Arabic, and I tried to communicate with them, and I did not notice any difference in the treatment, and the speed of response from other Amazon sites.
If we talk about the availability of products and prices.
Products are available, but not all products are shipped internationally. It also has much lower availability than other Amazon sites.
However, they are constantly adding more as I have noticed. Many of them can be shipped internationally, except for products sold by merchants or some other company.
As for prices, they may be slightly higher than Amazon sites sometimes, and this may be due to tax and other costs. We hope, however, that prices will decrease in the future as sales increase.
processing and shipping.
Items are usually shipped the same day or the next business day if available.
Shipping rates are also reasonable to the Sultanate of Oman and are cheaper than other Amazon sites, due to geographical proximity.
Shipments usually arrive within two days via Aramex, but sometimes Aramex is delayed.
If we talk about payments, they accept the usual Visa and Master cards. But they require payment immediately to process the order, unlike Amazon Global. This is also what I noticed on Amazon UK, they take payments instantly while ordering.
Note: Prices are inclusive of customs clearance and any other costs, meaning that you do not pay anything upon receipt of the order.
to update:
I had bought an Epson printer from Amazon UAE, and the printer stopped after months of using it for some reason..
I contacted customer service to explain the problem to them, and they told me that they can return the printer and refund the full amount paid.
Indeed, after only one day, an Aramex representative came to receive the printer, and the amount was processed within about two days.
Conclusion:
I think Amazon has succeeded to a large extent in bringing the global shopping experience to the Middle East in a short time, despite some challenges. They just need to provide more products, at reasonable prices.
